After the introduction from BSA (Boy Scout of America) Venture Crew Executive in October 2013, a few youths from IBPS (International Progress Buddhist Society) boy scout and girl scout troops of New York showed their interests of forming a Venture Crew at the temple. They seek to experience a program that is fun and full of challenge and adventure. They can create and manage many exciting and meaningful activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, develop leadership skills, and become good citizens. Through months of discussion, organizing, setting up bylaw, and interacting with adults and venerable from the temple, they gave birth of Venture Crew 754 chartered with the Greater New York Council of Boy Scouts of America.
At its first membership meeting, Miss Jasmine Wu was elected the president of the crew. Subsequently, Miss Molly Hwang was elected the president of the crew for the scouting year of 2014~2015 and Miss Isabel Zou was elected to serve as the president for the year of 2015~2016. Under the leadership of the 3 presidents and guidance of the venerable, the crew has expanded to become a 16 members unit. the largest venturing crew in the Queens district. The venturing crew is the youngest scout unit among all the scout units sponsored by the temple, but it consists of the oldest members in the all scout units. During the past two and half years, all the Crew member have the long tie experience from Boy scout or Girl scout. They are very devoted to their new Crew and designed many activities with high adventure, which they did not experience in their scouting life, for example, extreme adventure at Lake George, rock climbing by Atlantic Ocean, kayaking on the sea, and plan their own activities and community services with little supervision. These activities meet the Venturing’s purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.
We continue to reach the goal of Venturing is to help young adults be responsible and caring persons, both now and in the future. Learn to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling the values in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Acquire skills in the areas of high adventure, sports, arts and hobbies, or religious life. Experience positive leadership from adult and youth leaders and be given opportunities to take on leadership roles. Have a chance to learn and grow in a supportive, caring, and fun environment. These all match temple “Three Act of goodness” Motto.
